The clause:

The Clause and Verb Types Clarification

Sentence Types
Combining Clauses:
In writing, clauses are combined in many means to produce unlike types of sentences.
Simple Sentences:

Ex: My dog ate my homework.

Simple sentences do not necessarily have to be curt!!! Notice that there is but one contained clause in each of these sentences.

When a judgement contains more than one clause, it is considered a combined clause. There are multiple ways to combine clauses to form a sentence:
- Compound sentences
- Complex sentences
- Compound/complex sentences
Compound Sentences:
Consist of ii or more than independent clauses that may be linked together with 'and', 'or', 'only', etc.
Ex: I walked downtown,and I bought some milk.
Kathy did her homework,but she left it on her table.
Many young students will write with compound sentences oftentimes. They will need motivation and instruction to write with more circuitous sentences.
Complex Sentences:
There is a clause that expresses the main idea, and another clause, or clauses, to add detail. The main clause, equally previously mentioned, is independent. All the same, the particular clause is dependent. This ways that it relies on the master clause for its meaning.
Ex: I like to play piano whenever I am feeling distressing.
If information technology rains tomorrow, the game will be cancelled.

—Importance in writing:
Students' sentences will audio choppy and juvenile if they include besides many unproblematic sentences. Nevertheless, simple sentences are used in giving directions or explaining a procedure. Longer sentences are more appropriate for the majority of other writing considering the writer is able to put more data into the clause by combining ideas.

Procedure:
I would begin my lesson by refreshing the students' memories equally to what the parts of a judgement were. Every bit I am pedagogy a grouping of 8th graders, who do have basic or below bones reading scores, they need repetition and very basic instruction before tackling anything too complex. This can be done with just about any text that the students are currently working with. I call back the primary point with this exercise is to hash out how different the text would sound if all of the sentences were written as unproblematic sentences. Identifying clauses like this is a great way to get the students thinking most how combining dependent and independent clauses can really meliorate their writing.
I would so explain to the students that information technology was a Compound/Complex Sentence, and give them a moment to try to think of their own definition for this term. After some table talk, we would come back together and determine if their definitions were correct. Upon word, I would requite the students the handout on the types of sentences: simple, compound, complex, chemical compound/circuitous. After discussing these types of sentences every bit a whole group, I would and then give the students an opportunity to form their own examples of each blazon.
When the students have completed their own examples, I would check for understanding by having the students trade papers, and make notes on their partner's paper explaining WHY each sentence is whichever type. I would tell them to use their examples from their notes to help them. I would remind them to imagine the stress and sadness that she must exist feeling. Then, I would ask the students to create a string of their own simple sentences from the voice of Mattie. Finally, the students would combine those sentences using what they know virtually clauses. Afterwards completing the stories, the students would get to share them with the course, add animations, etc.
